Gretchen: I enjoy owning and operating my business, which I do alongside my Husband Jim. Although I manage all the aspects of the business, I am happiest when I am at my counter creating floral arrangements. My look is most often described as garden/romantic. It is wonderful to be surrounded by beautiful flowers everyday! Favorite flower: orchids
Jim: I have been in the floral business since 1972. I have owned flower shops and have worked in the wholesale end of the business as well. My primary position is operating the business and purchasing all of the flowers and plants. Favorite flower: roses
Kate: 38 years ago I started designing in my Mother-In-Law’s shop in Wisconsin. She said I was a natural. My favorite flower is: what day is it??? Today ranunculus, tomorrow iris! Wild violets picked for me in the spring are my real favorites! My favorite design to arrange is monochromatic and contemporary designs. I also love to do wildflower or Adirondack baskets. Turning your feelings into flowers is my favorite thing to do for you!
Jenette: I first feel in love with floral design selling flowers in a quaint flower/shoe repair shop in downtown Albany. I graduated college with a master Tech degree in automotive repair. I also used to donate blood playing rugby for Oneonta and Albany State. My favorite thing about what I do is that every day brings a different occasion, new challenges and inspirations. I love any monochromatic arrangement. My favorite flower changes daily! I could no easier choose a favorite star in the sky! “I’d rather have a flower in my hair than bread on my table”.
Tammy G: I unintentionally became involved with flowers through Boces during high school. I originally was signed up for the culinary program. After being asked to leave that field, I was placed in the horticulture program. I went on to graduate from Boces with my floriculture degree. So, 25 years later I can design flowers but still can’t cook! My favorite flower is: cymbidium orchids
Tammy S: As a kid, I always enjoyed gardening. It seemed like a natural fit to have a career working with plants and flowers. When designing container gardens, I prefer a natural look, simple and a little understated. Favorite plant/flower: Echinacea, all varieties.
Jamie: I am a graduate of the Boces horticulture program. I have been with Jim and Gretchen for 2 years. My family has been involved with flowers and plants in one way or another for quite a while. I love working with the flowers and also working with the customers. You never know what odd project may come up in the course of a day! Fall is my favorite season and I love doing rustic style arrangements. Favorite flower: sunflowers
John: I deliver all the flower arrangements that go out of the store every day. I enjoy meeting the customers and seeing their response when they see me at their door with a bouquet of flowers. I also love to drive! Favorite flower: gerber daisy
Tom: My family was in the floral business in Saratoga beginning in the late 1800’s. I was a TV repairman in Saratoga for 50 years. I also ran a hobby shop. I work one day a week processing all the flowers that arrive. During the holiday seasons I often work full time. I love working with young people, because it keeps me active and my mind strong. Favorite flower: lisianthus
Tim: I’ve been in the business 10 years. I am always looking for new and unusual techniques to utilize flowers and WOW a client! Each day brings the opportunity to paint with nature’s colors on a blank pallette. Favorite flower: Bells of Ireland
